Chia is a plant cultivated mainly in the organic, bio-sustainable fields of Bolivia. Chia Seed Oil has been shown to have antioxidant properties and contains health-providing omega-3 fatty acids and other polyunsaturated fatty acids, plus proteins, fiber, and vitamins (vitamin A, thiamine (B1), niacin and riboflavin) and minerals, including, iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, zinc, phosphorus, copper, and molybdenum. Chia Seed Oil contains significant amounts of omega-3 fatty acids in the form nature intended: A perfect 3:1 ratio of omega-3 to omega-6. This is important because too much omega-6 can lead to inflammation in the body, which is associated with almost all degenerative problems from joint pain, cancer to heart disease. Alpha-linolenic acid has now been shown to be the preferred heart healthy ingredient, which other omega-3s are not. Supplementation greater than one gram daily for at least a year may be protective against cardiac death, sudden death, and myocardial infarction in people who have a history of cardiovascular disease.
